Scotch Plains and Fanwood Celebrate National Night Out

August 7, 2013 at 2:11 PM

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ – The police departments in both Scotch Plains and Fanwood came out in force along with the fire departments and rescue squads to help celebrate National Night Out.

The purpose of National Night Out is for the nation to raise awareness of crime and drug prevention, increase community spirit and police community partnerships and to build up support for and participation in local anti-crime programs.

“It really great to see everyone out here, having a good time and seeing our police in a very positive setting,” said Nelson Espeland, owner of the Allstate Agency in Scotch Plains.  “It’s really all about the kids, letting them have a good time while raising their awareness – that’s why we decided to sponsor the bounce houses.”

Marci Semel, owner of Mara’s Bakery in Fanwood, came out with her family to enjoy the festivities in LaGrande Park.  “Fanwood is such a safe place with so much going for it – National Night Out really gives business owners and families alike the chance to enjoy that fact and get to know some of the people who make it that way.”
