SCOTCH PLAINS-FANWOOD, NJ -- The Scotch Plains Police Department's National Night Out event takes place at the Village Green (next the the Municipal Building) on Tuesday, August 5th from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. It will include free slides and bounce houses for kids, demonstrations from the SPPD SWAT members, K-9 Unit, Patrol, and the popular Dunk-a-Cop Tank. Home-grown band, The Broadcasters, will be perform.
Meanwhile, Fanwood Police Department's 30th annual National Night Out Against Crime happens at LaGrande Park. The event features FREE bounce house and slide, games, face painting and tattoos, arts and crafts, food, raffles and The Lego Movie,

According to National Association of Town Watch, the non-profit that started the event, National Night Out now involves over 37.8 million people and 16,124 communities from all 50 states, U.S. Territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. “America’s Night Out Against Crime” began in 1984 as an effort to promote crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships, neighborhood camaraderie, and to send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. It includes symbolic front porch vigils and has turned into a celebration across America with events including block parties, cookouts, parades, visits from emergency personnel, youth events, safety demonstrations and seminars.
