Scotch Plains-Fanwood Advances in Opening Round of State Baseball Tourney

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Zach Lipshitz hit two doubles and scored a run and the Scotch Plains-Fanwood baseball team advanced with a 4-3 victory over J.P. Stevens in the first round of the NJSIAA Section 2, Group 4 state tournament on Monday.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood (9-10) scored two runs in the fifth inning to overcome a 3-2 deficit. Winning pitcher Chris Gibbons scattered eight hits, struck out seven and walked three. Christian Isolda had an RBI double in the victory. 

Joe Siecinski went 2-for-4 with an RBI for J.P. Stevens (14-13), whose pitcher, Frank LoGuidice, allowed just one earned run in six innings.
