BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - Christian Gordon scored six goals and had two assists in Scotch Plains-Fanwood's 13-5 boys lacrosse victory over Gov. Livingston.
Playing head to head, Gov. Livingston evened the score with a goal by Brian Hutton with 3:21 left in the first. Scotch Plains woke up with a four-goal run that put the Raiders in control for the rest of the game.
"We started a little sluggish -- by the second quarter we got together and it was a nice win for us. We were sleeping at first and woke up," said Scotch Plains coach Nick Miceli.
When Scotch Plains settled in, they managed to keep the Highlanders' top offensive threats, Alex Lipkin and Brian Hutton without a goal in the second and third quarters. Their defense held tight and limited inside shots.
Tom O'Sullivan led the Highlanders with seven ground balls and dodged through the Raiders defense with a goal to slice the deficit 8-4 in the third.
The Raiders continued on the offensive to add five more goals to their tally.
"We came out a little sleepy. We picked it up and picked up a team win today," said Christian Gordon, Scotch Plains lead scorer.
Scotch Plains hosts St. Joseph Metuchen on Tuesday, April 29.
