SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ -The Scotch Plains-Fanwood girls soccer team extended its winning streak to nine games Tuesday against Gov. Livingston with a 5-1 victory at Wexler field.
Tori Baliatico led the scoring for the second game in a row, scoring three goals in the game.
“We were aggressive and we won the 50-50 balls,” said SPF’s Kelly Yeager, who added two assists. “That’s why we won.”
For the second game in a row, SPF let in the opening goal within the first five minutes of the game. Gov. Livingston’s first and only goal came in the third minute of play to take the early 1-0 lead.
SPF responded quickly with an eighth-minute goal by Baliatico to tie the score at one. Three minutes later, Sarah DiIorio scored off of a nice cross from Kelly Yeager to give SPF the 2-1 lead.
“We did a great job of coming back after letting in that first goal,” said SPF’s Katie Harper. “But we have to come out stronger in the beginning of games.” Tori Baliatico scored again in the 23rd minute of play to add to SPF’s lead. The half ended with SPF leading 3-1.
Harper started off the scoring in the second half with a 60th-minute goal, to extend SPF’s lead to 4-1. SPF’s fifth and final goal came from Tori Baliatico (63rd minute), who achieved her first hat trick of the season. Baliatico has a combined five goals in the last two games.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood looks to improve its record to 10-0 Thursday away against Oak Knoll in Summit.
