The Scotch Plains-Fanwood YMCA and the PTA Council have collaborated to organize the United for a Cause 5K and Family 1 Mile Walk/Run on Saturday, Apr. 26,
The Family 1 Mile Walk/Run begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 5K at 9:15 a.m. at the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Y on Martine Avenue. YMCA Healthy Kids' Day activities will follow at 10:00 a.m. after races.
“This event helps two causes, the PTA Council Health and Wellness Scholarship awarded to a current graduating high school senior and raising monies for Livestrong at the YMCA,” said Marci Bowman, President of the Scotch Plains-Fanwood PTA Council
The Livestrong Program at the YMCA is a free 12 week fitness program offered to cancer survivors. “This program helps cancer survivors get their lives back physically, mentally and spiritually. We have graduated 120 survivors since the program began two and a half years ago,” said Sheri Cognetti, Senior Program Director at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA.
The program enables the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA to offer participants educational seminars, childcare assistance and services for financial management. The program focus helps recovering cancer survivors; “get their lives back” physically, mentally and spiritually.
