December 19, 2012 at 10:59 AM

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – A women, her young son and the family dog died last night after the Scotch Plains and Fanwood Fire Departments were called out to fight a fire at their home on Church Avenue in Scotch Plains.

The 32 year old woman and her son were pulled from the home with extensive injuries just after 7 pm Tuesday night, but were pronounced dead on arrival at Overlook Hospital.  While the cause of death appears to be the fire, there will not be an official statement on cause of death until an autopsy has been performed.

The fire appears to have started on the second floor of the duplex house, causing extensive damage to the structure.

A spokesman for the Police Department confirmed the deaths, but no further comment can be made as there is an ongoing criminal investigation into the incident, conducted by the Union Country Prosecutor’s office and Scotch Plains detectives.
