JACKSONVILLE, FL - The 10th-seeded Seton Hall Pirates take on the seventh-seeded Wofford Terriers tonight in the first round of the March Madness Tournament.
The game tips off at 9:40 p.m. on CBS. The teams will face each other at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla., in the Midwest Region of the bracket.
There are three things to know about tonight’s game, per the official Seton Hall Pirates pregame report.
- The Terriers have the fourth-best effective field goal percentage in the nation at 57.8 percent and the second-best percentage for shooting three-pointers at 41.6 percent. Part of the success in three-point shooting comes from Wofford's Fletcher Magee, who is three three-pointers away from becoming the NCAA's all-time leader in that statistical category.
- While Wofford has many good stats, its Achilles heel lies in the turnover rate. While averaging only 10.9 turnovers per game, that number jumps to 13.4 against opponents from the so-called "basketball six" conferences (they are the ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC). The Terriers' worst game of the season came against Tennessee when they coughed the ball up 18 times.
- Four of Seton Hall’s starters are experienced players: Myles Powell, Myles Cale, Sandro Mamukelashvili, and Michael Nzei. On the other hand, Wofford only has one player, Cameron Jackson, who went to the tournament in 2015 but did not see any in-game action. Experience may play a role in the game, but they are not played on paper.
So far today, third-seeded LSU defeated fourteenth-seeded Yale 79-74. Tenth-seeded Minnesota upset seventh-seeded Louisville 86-76 in the East. And in the Midwest Region, fifth-seeded Auburn survived a scare from twelfth-seeded New Mexico State 78-77 in the Midwest.
Tune in tonight find out how the Pirates do against the Terriers.
