LIVINGSTON, NJ- Seton Hall Prep, No. 6 in The Star-Ledger Top 20, beat Livingston, 20-8, in the semifinals of the Essex County Lacrosse Tournament in West Orange on Thursday. Seton Hall Prep will advance to meet West Essex on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in the final.
Seton Hall’s Chris Donovan had six goals, Joe McHale scored four, and Brian Tevlin, Thomas LaRose and Jules Heningburg all netted two goals.
Livingston’s Tommy Heller had three goals and an assist for Livingston.
Prior to this game, excitement filled the air on the afternoon of Tuesday May 6, as the No. 4 seed Livingston Lancers defeated the No. 6 seed Montclair Kimberley Cobras in the quarterfinal round of the Essex County Tournament, with an impressive final score of 17-5. While hosting the quarterfinal game for the first time ever, the Lancers proved that they’re a forced to be reckoned with.
Despite their slow start, the boys played an intense game on both ends. Senior Dylan Kruse dominated on the draw, picking up twenty total groundballs. His excellent play allowed for Livingston to maintain possession for the majority of the game.
Junior Tommy Heller scored seven goals and had four assists, making him the highest scorer on the team. When asked about the energy of the team, Heller said, “We were really excited for this game, and it took a little bit of time. But then we just kept feeling our flow, playing our game.”
Senior Billy Mandl also played a great game, with five goals and two assists. Juniors Max Scher and Brendan Flaherty contributed to the success of the offense, with Scher scoring two goals and Flaherty scoring one. Junior Jonny Schreiber and senior Jake Karp played aggressive defense, and junior goalie Brandon Stone had a great game. His multiple stops and textbook-perfect clears were imperative to the team’s success.
