SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - A Seton Hall University student has died from injuries sustained from falling off the campus' parking deck on Tuesday, according to a letter to the school community from the University's Interim President, Mary Meehan, on Tuesday afternoon. Meehan later identified the student as senior Julian M. Mislavsky, 23, of Morristown.
"We will have a memorial service on campus, but until the arrangements can be finalized I ask you again to remember Julian and his family and friends in your prayers," Meehan said in the letter. "This is a difficult time for our community and we all respond differently to tragedy. I urge you to seek assistance from our counseling and Campus Ministry services at any time if you feel the need for support."
South Orange Police Officers responded to a 9-1-1 call at about 12:15 p.m. that an individual had fallen from the roof of the parking deck located on the campus of Seton Hall University, according to a statement from South Orange Police Chief Kyle Kroll.
Upon arrival, officers found a man laying on the grass median adjacent to the parking deck’s vehicular exit.
Mislavsky had sustained life-threatening injuries, and was treated at the scene by emergency personnel. He was transported to University Hospital in Newark, where he was pronounced dead at 1:12 p.m., Kroll said.
The cause of death will be determined pending the results of an autopsy from the Medical Examiner’s Office, and the preliminary investigation reveals no evidence of foul play, according to police.
Detectives are currently investigating this incident, and any individuals or witnesses having any information pertinent to this investigation are encouraged to contact Det. Lt. Brian McGuire of the South Orange Police Department at (973) 763-3000 ext. 7788.
Meehan's letter also included information for counseling and support services available to the campus community.
