SUMMIT, NJ - John Cordrey scored four goals, including three in a seven-goal Hilltopper burst in the third quarter, as the Summit High School Boys Varsity Lacrosse Team cruised past Old Bridge, 10-1, and improved to 13-1 on the season.
Seven-Goal Third Quarter Propels Summit LAX Past Old Bridge, 10-1
Summit had a plethora of chances in the first quarter, but could not break through and, as was the case throughout the match, Old Bridge did not pose a significant threat. Deadlocked at 0-0, Old Bridge scored their only goal of the game two and a-half minutes into the second. Down 1-0, Summit strung together three goals to take a 3-1 lead at halftime.
Connor Murphy took a high hit but fed Chris Zanelli for Summit's first. Peter McKinley -- earning his first assist of the season -- set up Cordrey, followed by a James Tully to Andrew Helmer to James Strabley connection that resulted in Matt Fischetti scoring.
The Hilltoppers rolled a seven spot in the third quarter, including three goals from Cordrey, and a goal each from Andrew Chase, Murphy, Jack Johnson, and Strabley. The fourth quarter saw Summit Head Coach Jim Davidson substitute liberally, including bringing Jay Winchell on for Sam Bebout in goal five minutes into the frame.
In their final game prior to the Union County Tournament, Summit travels to Ridgefield, CT, May 5, for a 4:30 face-off.
