MONTCLAIR, NJ - During a swearing-in ceremony held in Montclair Council Chambers Thursday morning, seven new firefighters were added to the force.
When emergencies arise in the community, firefighters are among the first to arrive to the scene. Usually among the first to respond to fires, auto accidents, hazardous materials incidents, rescue operations, explosions, medical emergencies and countless other emergency matters, firefighters are civil servants as well as sworn officers.
The following firefighters were sworn in by Township Clerk Linda Wanat: Thomas Hargraves, Christopher Herrmann, Matthew Gifford, Timothy McLoughlin, Gregory Miller, Kevin Polek, Todd Thompson.
All Montclair firefighters must complete a probationary period before being sworn in. Hargraves came to the Montclair Fire Department from the Washington, D.C. Fire Department, while the six others completed the probationary requirement after graduating from the Essex County Fire Academy.
