SPARTA, NJ-The Sparta Seniors had a presentation by the Sussex County Sheriff’s office about a program called TRIAD. It is a multi-faceted safety program aimed at assisting seniors. The program derives its name from the three collaborating agencies; the Sussex County Sheriff’s Office, Division of Senior Services and the Sussex County Chiefs of Police.
TRIAD efforts include a Wristband Program. Seniors who register for this free program receive a black and gold silicone wristband. The bands are engraved with the phone number of the Sussex County Sheriff‘s office and a registration number. Should the senior become incapacitated or unable to communicate emergency personnel can contact the Sheriff to get the relevant information.
According to Sussex County's published information, several businesses and individual donors have come forward to sponsor the cost of the program. The successful implementation of this program was made possible, in large part, thanks to the donations of the following Sussex County businesses:
- The Senior Quality of Life Foundation
- Smith-McCracken Funeral Home
- The Morville Agency, a Division of Bollinger Insurance
- Illiff-Ruggiero Funeral Home
- The Mitchell Agency
Sparta Seniors were also treated to a tour of the Sussex County Jail where they saw firsthand how the operation works. "They really found it interesting," said Marianne Dilworth, Senior Coordinator and Recreation Supervisor.
