SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ – This weekend marked the end of the official “Holiday-Shop-Dine-Local” event sponsored by the local Business and Professional Associations (BPA). Eighteen people won prizes for participating in the event.
“I really want to thank all of the merchants for participating in this,” said Lisa Mohn, president of the Scotch Plains BPA. “It was also a great opportunity to work with Fanwood.”
The “Holiday+Shop+Dine+Local” event was launched two weeks ago, encouraging holiday shoppers to help both local business communities hit hard from the recent storm. The two-week local shopping spree began on Saturday, November 24th and finished on Saturday, December 8th.
James Hannon was delighted to win a $25 gift certificate to Little Shop of Comics. “I’m in there all the time anyway, so I’m really happy!”
Hannon felt this event did not change his spending habits only because he was already “focused” on shopping local. “ I've always believed in shopping local when I can - I would much rather give my business to someone in town who has great customer service, like Little Shop of Comics, Apple Blossom, and Scotch Plains Music.”
Joanna Hurley posted the following comment on Facebook: “The hallmark in Fanwood was packed this morning, which is great to see. I was going to go up to Pier 1 for some shopping, but they worked out better.”
Tracy Constandi, President of the Fanwood BPA, felt that the event did raise awareness with local residents. “I think people are really trying to be conscious about giving their patronage to local businesses.”
