On Friday, Feb. 15, two 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations dedicated to saving the lives of homeless animals will team up to fly sixteen puppies home. Home for Good Dog Rescue, a foster-based rescue in Summit, saves dogs from euthanasia at high-kill shelters. The organization transports dogs in need from Georgia and South Carolina to New Jersey. Pilots N Paws, an organization that coordinates pilots and rescues to assist with the transportation of animals via airplane, introduced Home for Good to a new mode of transportation…airplane!
The flight will be taking off from South Carolina and will be landing at Morristown Municipal Airport around 1pm on Thursday. The litter of sixteen puppies came from a shelter in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
This will be Home for Good’s second flight with Pilots N Paws; the first was on Sunday, Jan. 27 when four pups flew from South Carolina to Monmouth Executive Airport in New Jersey. Pilots Keith Decker and Nick O’Connell of Pilots N Paws helped transport the dogs to safety. Many Home for Good volunteers greeted the dogs at the airport and took them back to Home for Good’s offices to get ready to meet their foster parents.
Prior to teaming up with Pilots N Paws, the organization was transporting about twenty puppies and dogs once every week by truck. Transporting by truck is still their main mode of transportation for the dogs, but Pilots N Paws has given them an exciting alternative; one that they hope they will continue to use in the future.
Since Home for Good Dog Rescue was founded in August 2010, over 1,600 dogs have been adopted into permanent loving homes. The organization relies heavily on their foster program, which provides temporary housing and a loving family environment until the dogs are adopted. Home for Good provides veterinary care and all food and supplies while the dog is in foster care.
Dogs available for adoption can be found through their website, www.HomeForGoodDogs.org. Adoption events are held at various pet supply stores in the Essex, Morris and Union County area on weekends. A list of all upcoming adoption events can also be found on their website.
