Smoke Scent in Berkeley Heights Caused By Wharton State Forest Fire

 BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ - A large fire that burned overnight in Wharton State Forest in southern New Jersey is the cause of the smoky scent permeating Berkeley Heights’ air today, according to multiple sources. The fire began Sunday afternoon, according to NBCNewYork.com. NJ.com is reporting that, as of Monday morning, it is only 30 percent contained. 

The fire is large enough, and the winds strong enough, and traveling in the right direction that surounding areas are experienceing a haze and burning smell.  Reports of the smoky odor are coming from as far away as Brooklyn and Philadelphia.
