WEST ORANGE, NJ — A large fire that burned overnight in Wharton State Forest in southern New Jersey is the cause of the smoky scent permeating West Orange’s air today, according to multiple sources. The fire began Sunday afternoon, according to NBCNewYork.com. NJ.com is reporting that, as of Monday morning, it is only 30 percent contained. Reports of the smoky odor are coming from as far away as Brooklyn and Philadelphia.
