MONTVILLE, NJ — Enjoy the MTHS Theatre Company's Spring Musical Bright Star: Concert Version from the comfort of your own home! A sweeping tale of love and redemption, BRIGHT STAR, which features Steve Martin and Edie Brickell‘s Tony®-nominated score, is the Montville Township High School’s spring musical for 2021.

The MTHS Theatre Company’s production will stream Thursday, Friday and Saturday, April 22, 23, & 24 at 7:30pm via BookTix Live’s StreamPass Tickets.

Inspired by a true story, and set against the rich backdrop of the American South in the 1920s and ’40s, the music, story and performances of BRIGHT STAR shine.

When a young soldier, just home from World War II, meets literary editor Alice Murphy, he awakens her longing for the child she once lost. Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives. With beautiful melodies and powerfully moving characters, the story unfolds as a rich tapestry of deep emotion. An uplifting theatrical journey that holds you tightly in its grasp, BRIGHT STAR is as refreshingly genuine as it is daringly hopeful.

“We are very excited to be presenting this unique and entertaining musical for the Montville community and beyond,” said Director, Executive Producer and MTHS Drama Club Advisor, Scott Baird. Baird notes that the nature of virtual performances allows family, friends and fans from all over the world to attend the MTHS Theatre Company’s spring 2021 production of Bright Star: Concert Version.

BRIGHT STAR is the latest production from the active MTHS Theatre Company. Since last March, the MTHS Theatre Company has produced several popular virtual productions.

Scott Baird and Kristen Markowski, who serve as Drama Club/MTHS Theatre Company advisors, are once again heading the creative team. The two produce and direct four to five theatrical events at MTHS annually. Since March of last year, they have adapted all productions to a virtual format that includes synching vocal recordings with instrumental tracts, and editing video to create the final production.

For BRIGHT STAR, Baird is serving as Director and Executive Producer, and Markowski is Vocal Director, Producer and Editor of the virtual show. Andrew Havington returns as the Pit Director. Markowski and Havington are also MTHS music teachers in the Montville Township Public Schools district, which, for five years in a row, has been named a Best Community for Music Education by NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants).

The Production Staff is assisted by Student Assistant Director Emma Zwickel and Stage Managers Jodi Justnes and Jesse Youngstein.

The cast and crew of BRIGHT STAR features MTHS students in grades nine through twelve. They have been practicing remotely through Zoom for this production since February.

The twenty-member cast includes: Joleen Amer, Joseph Amoroso, Joshua Bienskie-Jackso, Riley Chertcoff, Josh Choc, Jaime Crohn, Ariana Diaz, Santina DiBenedetto, Belle Duddie, Emily Gazzillo, Kenna Heim, Jack Iaci, Max Iaci, Laura Justnes, Julia Kehr, Raelle Lamela, Jake Polachek, Abby Seewald, Adyna Silverberg, and Evan Testa.
