SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - The South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC), in cooperation with the Village of South Orange and The Baird, has announced the films that were selected by the public for Movies in the Park nights this summer. More than 550 community members voted for their favorite films in three categories: comedy, action/adventure, and drama/classics.
The first screening will occur on Flood’s Hill on Wednesday, Aug. 14, with the supernatural comedy “Ghostbusters,” starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis.
The adventure film “Raiders of the Lost Ark,” directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Harrison Ford, will be shown on Wednesday, Aug. 21.
The final film for the Movies in the Park series will be the classic science-fiction fantasy “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial.”
“This series would not be possible without South Orange Village Trustees Sheena Collum and Steve Schnall,” said Mark Packer, executive director of the South Orange Performing Arts Center. “They presented this idea to SOPAC, and by working together with the village and The Baird we’ve been able to present a series of free outdoor movies for everyone to enjoy. We were so excited to see so many community members participate in the selection process.”
The free outdoor film series will take place on Flood’s Hills in Meadowland Park, with movies beginning at 8:30 p.m. If needed, a rain date of Wednesday, Sept. 4, has been chosen.
