ROXBURY, NJ – Singing a Handel aria from the 18th century, soprano and violinist Cassandra Lambros, of Warren Township, walked away with $1,020 on Oct. 7 for winning the Roxbury Arts Alliance’s vocal competition, according to the Alliance.
Lambros was one of 14 “terrific finalists” in the "Star Next Door" vocal competition presented by the Alliance at the Investors Bank Theater in Succasunna, said a statement from the non-profit organization.
The event, sponsored by Fullerton Grounds Maintenance, “drew performers representing all styles of music, from opera to folk to soft rock, jazz and blues and everything in between,” said the Alliance.
Marshell Bastidas, of Dover, was awarded third place and received $420 for an acapella performance.
A panel of judges from the music industry selected the winners.
Lambros performed "Lascia chi’io pianga," an Italian language aria from Handel’s 1705 opera Almira.
