SOUTH BRUNSWICK, NJ - Despite heavy downpours that caused the postponement of the initial planned celebration, the township saw upwards of 6,500 spectators appear at Crossroads South to witness the annual Independence Day celebration sponsored by the Recreation Department.

The festivities opened with a performance by the "The Fabulous Grease Band."  The performance concluded with the band leading the countdown into the start of the fireworks display.

According to police officials, "Our township even opened up its doors to the residents of nearby Milltown, which was forced to cancel its celebration when the contractor (Fireworks Extravaganza of North Jersey) failed to produce a credentialed truck driver to deliver the fireworks program."

The morning after saw a big cleanup by Board of Education staff and was assisted by a cleanup company contracted by the organizers.
