South Orange Home Ransacked; Thief Takes Jewelry, Laptops

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – A Holland Road resident reported that someone broke into their house and stole jewelry and two laptops sometime during the daytime hours of June 5.

The suspect gained entry by smashing a first floor window and ransacked several bedrooms.

During the on-scene investigation, a neighbor told police that she saw a man climb out of the victim’s window and flee on Kenmore Avenue toward Newark at about 9:30 a.m. The witness did not inform police of her observations until they arrived on the scene later in the day.

In other police news:

  • A Newark resident stated that someone removed her wallet from her shopping cart while she was loading groceries into her car in the Pathmark parking lot at approximately 7 p.m. on June 7.
  • Samuel Jean, 21, of Irvington, was arrested when police responded to a report of a stolen cell phone on Raymond Avenue at about 3:45 p.m. on June 9. Jean had approached the juvenile and asked to use the cell phone before fleeing with it. Officers canvassing the area found Jean running through the back yard of a Connett Place residence with the stolen phone and arrested him without incident.
