South Orange Night Out to Take Over Flood's Hill on Aug. 5

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The annual South Orange Night Out returns Tuesday, Aug. 5 with a public safety fair and plenty of activities for children and adults.

The fifth annual event begins at 6:30 p.m. on Flood’s Hill with live music by Aisle Five, a rock/pop cover band, and will end with “The Lego Movie,” which starts at 8:30 p.m.

“What’s unique about National Night Out is that over 37 million people in 16,000 communities are celebrating it nationwide on the same day,” Trustee Sheena Collum said. She serves as chairwoman of the village’s Public Safety Committee and is helping to organize the event.

During Night Out, children can enjoy a Kids Zone with bounce houses, coloring stations and other activities. Merchandise giveaways include T-shirts, Frisbees, balloons and glow sticks. Food trucks and vendors will be on site.

In addition, attendees can find out more about various departments and organizations in South Orange.

"Out public safety personnel and volunteers do an amazing job of serving the South orange community," Collum said. "A strong and safe community is built on a foundation of working together, and this event pulls together so many stakeholders."

Collum said she is hoping for a turnout of more than 1,000.
