Auto Theft - A Roland Ave resident reported that sometime between 10:30 pm, Thursday 5-10-18 & 7:30 am, Friday 5-11-18 actor(s) unknown stole his vehicle (2016 Mitsubishi), which was parked in his driveway of his residence at the time.

Burglary to Auto - A Vose Ave resident reported that sometime between 10:45 pm, Wednesday 5-2-18 & 8:00 am, Thursday 5-3-18 actor(s) unknown entered her vehicle, which was parked in the lot, rummaged through the interior compartments & stole the vehicle's driver's manual.

Burglary to Auto - A So. Orange resident reported on Wednesday, 5-2-18 at approximately 1:48 pm, unknown actor(s) entered his unlocked vehicle, which was parked in the Rite Aid lot on So. Orange Ave & removed an envelope that contained banking documents. The victim was only inside the store for a few minutes & when he came out the envelope was gone.

Burglary to Autos - Two Centre St. residents reported that at approximately 1:00 am, Tuesday 5-1-18 an unknown actor entered their unlocked vehicles & rummaged through the interiors. Nothing appears to have been taken from either vehicle at this time. The Detective Bureau is investigating further.

Warrant Arrest -  Kevin Fenelus, a 24 year old Irvington resident was arrested on Sunday, 5-6-18 at approximately 8:50 pm for and active arrest warrant out of So. Orange. Maplewood PD Officers stopped Fenelus for a motor vehicle violation(s) and arrested Fenelus on the warrant.  SOPD Officers responded to Maplewood PD to take custody of Fenelus & transported him to headquarters where he was processed accordingly.

Adult Arrest - DWI - Charles Wilkerson, a 47 year old Newark resident was arrested on Saturday, 5-5-18 at approximately 10:25 pm for DWI. Officers responded to the intersection of Centre St & So. Orange Ave on a call of a person sleeping in the driver's seat of a black, Buick sedan while it was stopped at the light. Officers were able to stop the vehicle and after further investigation at the scene, determined that the driver (Wilkerson) was operating the vehicle while under the influence.  Officers arrested Wilkerson without incident and transported him to headquarters where he was processed and charged accordingly. 



We'd like to again remind residents the importance of keeping ALL vehicle doors, residential doors/windows locked and secure at all times. The overwhelming majority of vehicles that are burglarized begin with entry through an unlocked door.

Our Detective Bureau is investigating this current wave of burglary to autos and has several leads. However, prevention is your first and foremost defense. Please SAFEGUARD your property and REMOVE a criminal's opportunity by locking doors and by not leaving any valuables inside vehicles, especially any valuables left in plain sight.  Equally important, please contact the police department IMMEDIATELY upon seeing any suspicious or suspected suspicious activity.

Burglary to Auto - A Jersey City resident & SHU student reported that sometime between 4:00 & 8:00 pm, Wednesday 4-25-18 unknown actor(s) entered her vehicle, which was parked on 2nd Street, rifled through the interior & removed several items, including: a Mac Book Air laptop computer, a lenovo laptop, a North Face brand book bag & several thousand dollars worth of ROTC National Guard gear.  

Burglary to Auto - An East Orange resident reported at 2:18 pm on Wednesday, 4-25-18 an unknown actor entered his pickup truck, while it was parked in front of a house on 5th Street & removed his Apple iPad. The victim reported that he observed the actor (described as a skinny black male, 5'8" - 5'10 in height who was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and had a black bandanna covering most of his face) inside his vehicle & then flee west on Fifth St. towards Academy Street.

Burglary to Autos - A Ralston Ave resident reported that sometime between 8:00 pm, Tuesday 4-24-18 & 10:00 am, Wednesday 4-25-18 actor(s) unknown entered three of he & his wife's vehicles. Several items, including; a wallet with identification, credit cards & cash as well as loose change was taken from the vehicles.  

Burglary to Autos - Two 4th Street residents reported that sometime between 5:30 pm, Tuesday 4-24-18 & 9:00 am, Wednesday 4-25-18 unknown actor(s) entered their unlocked vehicles & rummaged through the interiors. Only some loose change is reported missing at this time

Burglary to Autos - Two Tichenor Ave residents reported that sometime between 10:00 pm, Monday 4-23-18 & 11:00 am, Tuesday 4-24-18 unknown actor(s) entered their vehicles, rummaged through the interiors & stole several items including a Michael Kors bag, cash & loose change.

Burglary to Auto - A Wilden Pl. resident reported that sometime between 8:00 pm, Monday 4-23-18 & 7:00 am, Tuesday 4-24-18 unknown actor(s) entered her unlocked vehicle, rummaged through the interior & stole her purse, which was later recovered by police on Grove Rd.

Burglary to Auto - A Grove Rd resident reported that sometime between 11:30 pm, Monday 4-23-18 & 7:30 am, Tuesday 4-24-18 unknown actor(s) entered his vehicle, rummaged through the interior & stole an HP Laptop computer along with a gift card.

Theft of Bicycle - A Maplewood resident reported that sometime between 9:40 a.m. and 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 21, unknown actor(s) stole her bicycle, which was secured to a bike rack under the main train station. The bicycle is a bright green mountain bike with a white seat.

Attempted Burglary - A Newark resident reported that on Thursday, April 19, at approximately 11:10 a.m., an unknown actor assaulted him and attempted to rob him as he was doing maintenance work to a house on Finlay Place. The actor asked the victim if he had any money on him and then grabbed him, struck him in the back of the head and pushed him to the ground. The actor then tried to steal the victim's cell phone, but after a brief struggle fled the scene without it and headed east into Newark. Officers responded and checked the area, but were unable to locate the actor.  The actor is described by the victim and witnesses as a slim build, black male, approximately 6'1"- 6'3" in height, 20-30 years old and was wearing a brown hooded jacket and blue jeans. The Detective Bureau is investigating the incident.  

Adult Arrests - CDS - Rayaana Molette, a 22 year old Maplewood resident, along with Rashea Findley, a 28 year old East Orange resident and Wemusa Jalah, a 39 year old Newark resident were arrested on Thursday, April 19, at approximately 8:45 am for possession of CDS (Marijuana). Officers stopped a green Toyota for a motor vehicle violation at the intersection of South Orange Ave. and Fielding Ct.  After further investigation during the traffic stop, officers determined that the vehicle's three occupants (Molette, Findley & Jalah) were in possession of the CDS. Officers arrested all three without incident and transported them to headquarters where they were processed and charged accordingly.
