South Orange Police Make 3 Arrests

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – Police reported three arrests and are investigating three recent thefts.

Two 16-year-old Maplewood residents were arrested at 2:05 a.m. on July 28 after an alarm was triggered at the Montrose School on Clark Street. Both were arrested as they attempted to flee.

Devine Peebles, 20, of East Orange, was arrested at 1:20 p.m. on July 29 after police responded to the report that someone had shoplifted a pre-paid phone at Rite Aid. Police apprehended Peebles on Kilburn Place with the phone.

Police are investigating the following thefts:

  • Someone took a navy blue Trek mountain bike that was locked to the front porch of a Church Street residence sometime between 6:30 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. on July 29.
  • A UPS package delivered to a Grove Street resident was stolen from the front porch sometime during the day on July 28.
  • A backpack containing a laptop computer and textbooks was taken from a vehicle parked in the driveway of a Centre St. resident. The thief or thieves smashed the front passenger-side window of a 2012 Honda to gain entrance. The theft happened overnight on July 27.
