SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The South Orange Village Center Alliance (SOVCA) has found a way to say ‘Thank You’ to the Township Department of Public Works employees who have worked for weeks to keep the sidewalks and streets clear of hazardous ice and snow. All this week, through Saturday, March 1, members of the South Orange DPW will be able to stop in at many Village Center merchants to enjoy a cup of coffee and something to eat free of charge.
“This has been the winter of all winters,” said Bob Zuckerman, SOVCA’s Executive Director, “and our DPW guys have been plowing and shoveling and salting not only the roads and pathways of the Village Center but also miles and miles of Village roadways. We thought they deserved a treat on behalf of the Alliance and our thankful merchants.”
All week, DPW workers will be able to get a free cup of coffee and breakfast (such as a bagel, pastry or egg sandwich) at the following Village Center Merchants:
Cait & Abby’s Daily Bread
Hot Bagels Abroad
Chris’s Texas Weiner
Grid Iron Waffle Shop
In addition, the South Orange Performing Arts Center (SOPAC) will be giving each DPW employee two tickets to any SOPAC-presented performance in 2014. The Alliance will coordinate distribution of vouchers to each employee.
“When it was brought up at our recent board meeting everyone immediately said yes,” said Matt Glass, SOVCA’s Board Chair. “And when members of our board went out to our merchants to ask for their participation, every one of them said yes. That shows how much we all appreciate how hard our DPW guys have worked during this incredibly tough winter.”
