SOUTH PLAINFIELD,NJ - Effective September 15, Waste Management drivers will not collect residents’ recyclables that are set out in plastic bags.
South Plainfield’s recycling program does not include plastic bags, either as a recyclable material or as a container to hold recyclables. Recyclables are supposed to be set out at the curb loose in the Borough’s blue recycling bins or in some similar container. Black plastic bags may hide non-recyclable junk, and any plastic bag creates serious problems on the sorting line at the Materials Recovery Facility.
Therefore, Waste Management has instructed their drivers not to pick up anything in plastic bags. Any load that includes materials not listed in the Borough’s “Guide to Recycling” brochure may be left at the curb, with a red sticker on it explaining the problem. A resident can remove the problem materials and call the Recycling Coordinator at (908) 226-7621 to ask for the corrected load to be picked up the next business day.
