South Plainfield Flooding is Expected to be Widespread

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – South Plainfield’s Office of Emergency Management issued an automated phone call earlier this evening regarding flooding in South Plainfield, and particularly along New Market Avenue.  New Market Avenue is now closed between the South Clinton Avenue Extension and Hamilton BLVD.  The New Market Avenue Extension is expected to overflow later this evening.

High tide will occur between 9:00pm and 10:00pm this evening.  The National Weather Service has extended the Flood Warning until 4:00am Thursday May 1, 2014.  The National Weather Service is reporting flooding has already commenced in the Raritan, Millstone and Passaic River basins and more flooding is expected as the night continues.

The rain fall is expected to continue through the morning hours tomorrow.  The Alternative Press of South Plainfield will continue to provide updates as soon as they are made available.
