South Plainfield Residents Flock to the Corner Bakery Café

August 20, 2014 at 5:15 AM

SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ – Mayor Matthew P. Anesh and members of the South Plainfield Borough Council helped the owners of the Corner Bakery Café and hundreds of other well-wishers to cut the ribbon opening the Corner Bakery Café, South Plainfield’s newest restaurant located at 6400 Hadley Road in South Plainfield.

The Corner Bakery officially opened its doors Monday morning, as scores of residents lined up to be one of the first 100 customers.  The Corner bakery Café offered free mugs and a year’s worth of free coffee to the first 100 people that came to the grand opening.

“Yesterday morning at the Corner Bakery Café, there was no shortage of enthusiasm or coffee as the Corner Bakery opened its doors,” said South Plainfield Councilman Derryck White.

When asked what makes the Corner Bakery Café unique, Vice-President of Operations Andy Race said, “Everything here at the Corner Bakery Café is freshly prepared. This as well as our commitment to get involved and give back to the community separates us from most business.”

As a way to give back to the local community, Corner Bakery Cafe will be accepting donations from Aug. 18-22 for the Pink SOCS Foundation, a South Plainfield-based non-profit organization that supports families that have been affected by cancer.

The Corner Bakery Café’s Chicken Pomodori Panini is one of its many signature sandwiches. According to Race, “The Anaheim Scrambler is the most popular breakfast dish. It comes with eggs, applewood bacon, tomatoes, green onions, cheddar cheese and avocados.”

South Plainfield resident Andrew Nguyen was one of the many South Plainfield residents that arrived before 7 a.m. to get in line for breakfast.  According to the Nguyen family, “The Anahiem Scrambler and the paninis were excellent.”

Corner Bakery Cafe is a fast-casual restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. The made-to-order food is delivered fresh to your table and with a price point of $1.19 - $8.99. Corner Bakery Cafe is also recognized for its catering experience delivering signature, made-to-order breakfasts, lunches and dinners for any occasion.

The Corner Bakery Café’s dinner menu is very broad, including chicken carbonara, various salads and pesto cavatappi. After attending both grand-openings TAP into South Plainfield is comfortable in reporting, that in just one visit to the Corner Bakery Café, you will realize this is definitely not just a bakery.

“Our warm, inviting neighborhood atmosphere and freshly prepared food helps build long-term relationships with our guests,” said Corner Bakery Cafe CEO Mike Hislop. “We are excited to open in South Plainfield and are sure the neighbors will enjoy the Corner Bakery Cafe experience for years to come.”

The South Plainfield cafe marks the first of 20 locations that local operating partner Andy Race and President and CEO, Nirav Mehta, of Yum & Chill Restaurant Group, NJ plan to open in Central and Northern New Jersey over the next seven years. The Warren-based team of highly experienced restaurant developers, who come with a diverse portfolio of brands, plans to open their second location in North Brunswick later this year.

completely different perspective, as well as re-energize myself.
