ISELIN, NJ – South Plainfield’s Caroline Ratti went 3 for 4 with three triples, a home run and seven RBIs, and South Plainfield exploded for 10 runs in the top half of the first inning to go on to rout Iselin Kennedy, 18-1, in softball on Thursday.
Freshman Caity Hughes started the Tigers' hit parade doubling to lead off the game. She was knocked in on a double by Junior Holly DeLair, and DeLair would be followed by Ratti’s homerun to left. The Tigers would have eight hits and 10 runs in the first inning.
Ratti, Caity Hughes and Meghan Hughes were South Plainfield’s offensive stars. In addition to Ratti’s offensive heroics, Caity Hughes went 3 for 4 with two doubles and 3 RBI and Meghan Hughes was 4 for 4 with three doubles.
South Plainfield’s Katherine Vill was the winning pitcher. The victory improves Vill’s record to 5-2 on the season, and South Plainfield improves its record to 6-2.
