SOUTH PLAINFIELD, NJ - On Monday, Sept. 2, South Plainfield will again host one of the most traditional and well-attended all-day Labor Day festivities anywhere. This year’s theme is “Jersey Strong.”
This year’s honorary grand marshal is Peter Richkus, Jr., a long-time resident, well-regarded citizen and honored volunteer of the borough of South Plainfield.
The day’s events will kick off with a 5K run sponsored by the South Plainfield Education Foundation. The Parade will begin around 10 a.m. at the South Plainfield Police Athletic League building on Maple Avenue and will travel down to Plainfield Avenue, where the festivities will be held at the South Plainfield Middle School. The parade's cast of bands, floats, cartoon characters, volunteer organizations, athletic organizations, military representatives and political leaders are celebrating New Jersey as well as the community of South Plainfield.
The festivities will include plenty of food, vendors, non-profit organizations, children’s activities with musical entertainment by the band 9 South. The day’s celebration will then be capped off in the evening with fireworks by Pyrotechnico at Spring Lake Park.
