OMAHA -The University of Virginia Cavaliers defeated Ole Miss, 4-1, yesterday to advance to the College World Series finals against Vanderbilt.  Virginia defeated Ole Miss in the NCAA Tournament for the second time. The game was a resumption of Friday evening’s game, which was suspended in the second inning due to thunderstorms.

South Plainfield’s Brandon Downes is Virginia’s starting center fielder. Downes was 2-for-4 with a run scored. The Cavaliers’ Josh Sborz got the victory, and Nick Howard picked up his 20th save of the year. Virginia has never won a College World Series title, and Downes’ is the first South Plainfield resident to ever play for a College World Series Title.

The College World Series Finals is a best-of-three game series. Game One is Monday evening at 8 p.m. on ESPN.
