STAFFORD — Kate O’Boyle and Cuinn Deely both scored to help Southern, the top-seed and No. 19 in the NJ.com Top 20, take a 2-0 win over Scotch Plains-Fanwood in the championship of the NJSIAA Central, East D tournament, in Manahawkin.

The win gave Southern not just its first ever sectional title, but also its first ever undefeated season. The Rams finished the season with a record of 17-0.

Despite putting forth strong teams in recent years, the competitiveness of the South Jersey Group 4 section has kept the Rams from taking home a trophy, until now.

The Rams scored early in the first quarter and scored their second goal in the second quarter.

Maddy Brown had one save in the shutout. Bella English and Kiera Lyons had assists for Southern.

Southern Coach Jenna Lombardo-Adams reflected on this year's team:

"We could not be more proud of this group of girls. They are the definition of a team. Not one of these girls put themselves before the team and that's what made us so successful. We are so grateful to the NJSIAA, our school administration and athletic director for doing everything to make this season possible. These girls made history!"
