SUMMIT, NJ - Endeavoring to “keep the arts alive in Summit," the Summit Performing Arts Resource Committee (SPARC) will host its very first 'SPARC’ling Evening of Spontaneity', a night of virtual entertainment including performance, Improv and audience participation. The event will be livestreamed on YouTube live on February 27, beginning at 7 p.m.
For the past decade, SPARC has showcased the tremendously talented performing arts students and alumni of the Summit Public Schools through the 'SPARC’ling Evening of Song' fundraiser - a Cabaret-style dinner theater. Like many organizations, SPARC has had to get creative, improvise and reimagine their efforts while staying true to its mission.
The evening will be emceed by Rob Schiffmann, a professional improviser, musician, and Broadway comedian and will feature show-stopping performances from Summit’s high school and middle school students, and a humorous Q&A and Improv game with elementary school students -- plus there will be a surprise visit and guest performance by a current Broadway star.
Attendees and event sponsors will be able to participate in the evening through an interactive chat feature and will have the chance to be included in one of Schiffmann’s fun Improv pieces.
Funds raised will support the performing arts in the Summit’s Public Schools, including helping to cover the additional costs of performing the Middle School and High Schools spring musicals outdoors.
Last year, SPARC provided nearly $40,000 in grant funding for essential production expenses, playwright royalties, technical equipment upgrades, industry-led workshops and scholarships for graduating seniors. In 2021, SPARC will fund similar expenses as well as new necessities like performing masks, outdoor set and lighting design, and livestreaming expenses for virtual shows.
