Sparta Alumni Visits Photography Classes

SPARTA, NJ-The photography classes at Sparta High School had a recent guest speaker.  Chelsea Matiash gave a presentation about her life experiences ultimately leading to her current position of Photo editor of the Wall Street Journal.  Matiash graduated from Sparta in 2006. 

Matiash shared her college experiences with the students gathered in the auditorium lecture hall.  She also discussed current trends in photography and video.  She explained some of the details of her job as photo editor including how a photo gets chosen to be printed on the front page and judging photography contests.

Christine Mase, the high school photography teacher said, "I wanted to bring in Chelsea because she truly is a Sparta High School success story from working hard and taking opportunity when it arrives. She is young, relatable and full of life experience. I wanted the students to see that we really have a wonderful art department and our students can go very far professionally in the real world if they just put the forth the effort."

Meltem Saricicek is a junior at Sparta High School.  After attending the presentation Saricicek said, "She gave hope in my future career as a photographer because she is someone that succeeded from a small town and an elective class." 

Saricicek is a yearbook photographer and aspires to be a professional photographer.

Sparta Police: Newton Man Causes Accident, Faces DWI Charges

SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta police are asking the community for help in locating a person of interest in several car burglaries.
