TENAFLY, NJ - On May 16 and 17, Tenafly NJ hosted its annual “Safe At Home” girls softball tournament hosting teams from all around the area.
The 12U Sparta Blue Diamonds returned this year to defend their 2014 title. They were once again were victorious going undefeated at 6-0, going on to win the 2015 Tenafly “Safe At Home” Championship 8-5.
Behind the strong pitching of Lexi Lopresti, Maya Tomko and Emily Jacobs the Sparta Diamonds were able to shutdown stiff competition from Fairlawn and Allendale in the Semis and Finals. Buoyed by the timely hitting of Olivia Bouma-Hannam, Stephanie Villar, Alyssa Garcia and Kenzie Merwin and the stellar fielding of Ashton Martini, Bridget McNally, Aura Rispoli and Lizzi Botta the Diamonds were too much to handle this past weekend rolling to back-to-back championships.
Head coach Joe Jacobs summed up the win perfectly saying, “Winning back-to-back championships takes a total team effort. Our girls played great defense, hit in big spots and did the little things it takes to be a championship caliber team. We am so proud of them.”
Family and friends were on hand to cheer the team on over two long, hot days in but one parent said, “Coming home with the title was well worth it.”
The Sparta Blue Diamonds’ record is 8-2 in league play. They were back at this week with three games as they continue their quest for the 2015 Spring League title.
