Sparta Free Summer Movie and Concert Series

SPARTA, NJ- Sparta Township is offering many free programs this summer.  This Saturday, June 21 is the first of three Free Family Movie Nights.  The animated feature Frozen will be shown at Dykstra Park, scheduled to begin at dusk, approximately 8 p.m.  The rain date for this show is June 28. 

The park will open at 6:30 p.m. for this event.  There will be music provided by a DJ before the movie begins. 

Other movie night dates are scheduled for July 19 and August 16.  The movie titles have not yet been announced.

The Sparta Cultural Affairs Committee has also announced the 2014 Friday Summer Concert Series.  This year’s free performances are:

  • July 18             Freedy Johnston
  • July 25             Fitz & Friends
  • August 1         Danielia Cotton
  • August 8         Billy Hector
  • August 15      Organik Vibe Trio featuring Dave Samuels

All of the shows will be at the Nicholson Pavilion at Dykstra Park.  In the event of the threat of inclement weather the show will be moved indoors at the Mohawk Avenue School Auditorium at 7 p.m.  Updated information can be found

The concerts are free.  A donation to the Sparta Cultural Affairs Committee, however, will automatically enter you into a drawing for a $50 gift certificate to St Moritz.  There will be a drawing at each performance. 

Sponsors of the Summer Concert Series are Eastern Propane, Lakeland Bank, Burke’s, Sparta Farmers Market and Blue Diamond Disposal.

Dykstra Park and the Nicholson Pavilion are located behind the Sparta Library parking lot and playground area.

Sparta Police: Lafayette Woman Nearly Crashes into Police Car, Faces DWI Charges

SPARTA, NJ – A Lafayette woman is being charged with driving while intoxicated after crossing the double yellow line, nearly colliding with a Sparta police car.  On November 28, at 9:50 p.m. Cpl.
