SPARTA, NJ – The Sparta High School girls soccer team dominated Morris Hills on Friday playing on Cassels Field. The Spartan’s scored twice on in the first half and held the Scarlet Knights scoreless.
“I think we held really good composure, despite the physical play and worked together as a team,” Captain Cassie Hagler said.
“It was another gritty win,” Coach Dan Trappe told the team.
Kate Mazzella got the assist on both Spartan goals. Rebecca Lefkowitz and Julianna Dolinskik each put a point on the board.
“It was definitely a very physical game,” Becca Lefkowitz said. “We held our own and got a lot of shots off.”
Sparta put 12 shots on net. Taige Kellenberger made six stops.
“I think we are a well-connected team,” Kellenberger said. “I think if we keep up with the physical aspects and keep possession, we’ve got a shot,” as they look ahead to the playoffs.
Sparta has a 5-2 record and will be playing at Roxbury on Tuesday.
