SPARTA, NJ- The Sparta High School had a busy week of racing.
On Wednesday night, Jan 29 the boys varsity team moved out of the runner up spot and into first place. The racers stuck to the team plan, stayed on their feet and skied right into the top spot. The team time was 5:43.08, over 20 seconds faster than Vernon.
The Spartan boys showed total dedication to the team and turned smart skiing into fast skiing. Brad Maierle lead the team with a seventh place finish. Ryan Dumbroff and Derek Dykstra finished right behind him in eighth and ninth. David Gensheimer continued his consistent skiing with a 16th place finish, his best of the season.
The girls team slipped down to second place for the first time this season. Juliana Kaminski, Margaret Zembrzuska, and Alia Flanigan finished first, second and third on the team and each placed in the top ten over-all.
Cat McGrath finished first in the girls JV race on Wednesday with Alex Muino close behind with a fourth place finish.
The boys JV team showed strong skiing with four skiers in the top ten. Justin Allan, Ryan Bloomgren, NicholasTtartaglia and Jared Kish all finished in the top ten, finishing second, third, fifth, and eighth respectfully. Jared Kish had his best finish of the year with quick feet on the first slalom race of the year.
On Friday night the JV teams had their JV giant slalom invitational. Bloomgren and Doug Triolo finished first and second on the boys JV team with 19th and 24th place finishes. McGrath and Muino finished first and second on the team girls JV team with ninth and 15th place finishes on the night.
The official results of the last duel slalom race at Mt Peter Race have not yet been posted. The next race is scheduled for Thursday, Feb 5. It will be a Slalom Liberty race.
