SPARTA, NJ- Station Park was the site of the 25th Anniversary of the Senior Olympics. Twenty four Sparta Seniors competed against Seniors from Pequannock, Randolph, Rutherford, West Milford and Wayne. There was friendly competition in events such as the rubber chicken toss, t-ball, soccer kick, basketball shoot, horseshoes and Frisbee golf.
The opening ceremonies included the Sparta Township Police color guard, the Star Spangled Banner sung by Donna Jenkins and remarks by Mayor Molly Whilesmith.
There were more than 20 red shirted ambassadors, including many students from Sparta High School, on hand to help with the logistics of the games. Gold, silver and bronze medals were awarded to the winners of the various events.
Rutherford was the overall winner this year. Sparta came in third with several Sparta Seniors taking home individual medals.
Sharing meals was also very much a part of the day. A light breakfast was served before the events. The athletes were also provided lunch from Panera Bread.
