SPARTA,  NJ – A Sparta man is facing drug charges after getting stopped for speeding on Route 15.  On August 9 around midnight, Sparta Police Officer Thomas Herd stopped Jordan Proctor, 20 in a white Volvo SUV for going 78 MPH in a 55 MPH and driving in the left lane, police report.

When Herd spoke with Proctor the officer smelled marijuana in the car.  Proctor said friends had smoked pot in his car, police said.

A search of the car turned up a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.  Proctor was taken to Sparta Police Department headquarters for processing.  He was charged with speeding, failure to keep right, controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was released with a court date.
