SPARTA, NJ – A North Carolina man with a suspended license, seen weaving on Route 15, has been charged with drunk driving.  Joel Rivera of Washaw, North Carolina already had a suspended license with he was stopped on September 27 around 2 p.m. by Office Phil Longo, police said.

When Longo spoke with Rivera, the officer smelled alcohol in the car.  When asked, Rivera admitted he had a few drinks, police said.

Rivera was given field sobriety tests, taken into custody and transported to Sparta Police Department Headquarters, police said.

After processing and breath testing, Rivera was charged with DWI, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, unregistered vehicle and driving with a suspended license.

He was given a court date and released to a sober adult.
