SPARTA, NJ — Sparta school district was named “number one Best School Districts in Sussex County by Niche.  Sparta has received an overall "A" grade from in their most recent ratings. 

The overall grade was broken down into 10 distinct categories:

  • Academics — A
  • Teachers — A
  • Clubs and Activities — A
  • Administration — B+
  • Food — B
  • Diversity — C-
  • College Prep — A
  • Health and Safety -A+
  • Sports — A+
  • Resources and Facilities – A-

While he was not certain of the Niche formula, Superintendent Dr. Michael Rossi said he was “always happy to hear good news.”

“Honestly, my own formula is very simple: how happy and successful our graduates are and how any of those return to raise families back in Sparta,” Rossi said. “On those measures I believe we are doing well.”

Sparta was ranked number 16 of 249 in the state as Best School Districts for Athletes. Sparta was ranked the 41st Safest School District in New Jersey out of 383 schools. The district also ranked Sparta number 50 of the Best Places to Teach in New Jersey out of 382 schools.

According to Niche they use “the most up to date data available from dozens of public data sources along with millions of reviews from students, parents and residents on their site. 

They have a Data Team that uses “advanced algorithms and statistical techniques to compare, normalize and connect millions of data points to thoroughly analyze U.S. schools and neighborhoods.”
