SPARTA, NJ-Winning was not the only reason the Sparta High School girls lacrosse had to celebrate. Beth McGraw scored her 100th goal. This senior is the third girl on the team to reach this impressive milestone. McGraw joins Mackenzie Maguire and Julia Silvestri in the 100 goal club.
The team won their first round of the North Jersey Group Three NJSIAA tournament against Old Tappan on Thursday at home.
Coach Kate Brennan said, "The girls came out ready to play. They were mentally prepared, understanding that this is the point in the season when they have to leave it all on the field, and that is exactly what they did. Everyone contributed and everyone made an impact.
"In addition, senior captain Beth McGraw scored her 100th goal, which proved to be a very, very proud moment for her teammates, her family, and for me. She has really stepped up her game this season, particularly in the post season, and that makes a huge difference."
Sparta (9-8) will travel toWayne Hills High School on Tuesday for the next round of play. The game is scheduled for an4:30 start.
