SPARTA, NJ- The Sparta Town Hall will be getting a new roof. Beginning September 29 the solar panels will be removed and temporarily kept in storage units delivered to the back of town hall on Monday, Township Manager Bill Close said at the township council meeting last week.
The roof replacement project is scheduled to begin on October 2 and is anticipated to take six to seven weeks. The project should be completed by the end of November, with the solar panels reinstalled, Close said.
The project is budgeted for $1.5 million to remove, store and replace the solar panels as well as remove and replace the roof. The new roof will be a slate blue color metal roof, according to Sparta CFO Grant Rome. Rome said the solar panels will be installed using a track system that does not require the new roof to be perforated.
