Special Board of Trustees Meeting Tonight Will Address Village Clerk Situation

SOUTH ORANGE, NJ – The Board of Trustees has called for a special meeting to be held on Thursday, Aug. 29 (tonight) at 6 p.m.  According to the notice posted by the Village Administator, “The purpose of this meeting is discussion and appointment of Acting Municipal Clerk pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:9-133c.”

As reported earlier (see full article here), the board has chosen not to renew the appointment of Village Clerk Robin Kline, citing “a fundamental opposition to tenure,” which Kline would earn if she served a second term.

This decision has caused some controversy and outrage among some residents who view Kline as an excellent municipal employee.

Former Trustee Michael Goldberg has requested publicly (in a letter to The Alternative Press) that the board “reconsider and immediately reappoint Robin Kline as Village Clerk.”  An online petition was created as well, and, as of this writing, had garnered 90 signatures.

Notice of the meeting was emailed on Aug. 27 to The Star-Ledger and The News-Record (a weekly publication) only, and posted on the bulletin board at Village Hall.

The meeting will be held at Village Hall,
101 South Orange Ave.
