EDISON, NJ –The 2014 Spelling Bee was held at J.P. Stevens High School last month. The annual event is sponsored by the Friends of the Edison Public Library.
Important changes to the application process were made this year. In previous years, entrants were accepted on a first-come-first-served basis. Not all applicants received their forms at the same.
This year the 100 participants in each division were drawn randomly from all applications received by the deadline. An additional 20 names in each division were drawn in the event any participants dropped out.
Children participated in two divisions. Division 1: grades 2/3 and Division 2: grades 4/5.
Prizes were awarded to the top 3 winners in each division: First Prize $100, Second $75, and Third $50.
