SPOTSWOOD, NJ - The Spotswood High School girls tennis team opened the 2018 season with two straight wins after being unable to notch a single team victory last season. South Plainfield stopped the streak on Friday with a 5-0 win over the Chargers.

Mirit Girgis lost her first singles match to Jordan Lovett, (6-2, 6-0) while Gabriela Zeron dropped her second singles match to Jada Worthem, (6-1, 6-3). Marina Girgis lost her third singles match to Shikha Patel, (6-4, 6-0) for her first loss of the season. Emily Michaels and Alix Lemiere lost their first doubles match to Cameron Marks and Rachel Rokicki in straight sets by a score of (6-1, 7-0) and Elizabeth Sullivan and Karen Mausser were defeated by Olivia Olano and Alexis Russo, (6-2, 6-0). It was the first loss for the Chargers' doubles teams as well.

Spotswood will look to bounce back against North Brunswick High School on Monday. Matches begin at 4 p.m. at the Summerhill Road tennis courts.
