SPRINGFIELD, NJ - Yesterday afternoon, Springfield firefighters battled a single-house fire on Caldwell Place.
According to Springfield Fire Captain Michael Mastroeni, the fire was called in at 5:11 p.m. In response to the fire, the department dispatched Springfield Engine 2, which arrived on the scene within three minutes of the call. The fire was in a bedroom on the second floor of a multi-family residence.
Captain Mastroeni also said that the additional towns on site to help with the blaze were Millburn, Summit and Union.
His response confirmed what eyewitnesses at the scene had also said regarding that fire crews from several towns, were on hand to help fight the fire. Among the trucks on hand were two ladder trucks.
As firefighters worked to subdue the fire, other emergency crews were on hand at the scene. Regular and auxiliary police blocked off both ends of Caldwell Place, as well as other access points along the street. Springfield First Aid Squad (FAS) personnel were on hand as well in the event of any injuries.
Additionally, Captain Mastroeni said that the work of the firemen allowed them to contain the fire to tho the room of origin in under 15 minutes
