On March 15, Fairleigh Dickinson University will host the state's first Startup Weekend, an event bringing together entrepreneurs, designers, developers and startup enthusiasts to participate in 54 hours of taking innovative business ideas from concept to launch. Local CEOs, founders, and startup veterans will be on hand to provide expertise and give talks on their experiences in the fast-paced world of startups.
"This is going to be a great weekend for the state's entrepreneurial community,” said James Barrood, Executive Director of the Rothman Institute of Entrepreneurship at FDU which is coordinating the event. Entrepreneurs, developers and designers will be taking over the University's College at Florham for Startup Weekend.
Whether you have a business idea or a skill that is necessary in building a successful startup, this event is one that aspiring entrepreneurs should not miss. Concept pitching and team building will take place on day one; teams will be formed around the top concepts, leaving the remainder of the weekend to mind mapping, strategizing and building a real business. Knowledgeable and successful entrepreneurs will be in attendance to inspire, share and help the teams throughout the weekend. A variety of judges and coaches have expertise in many areas including consumer web, healthcare and enterprise. The final day teams will have the opportunity to pitch their business to a panel of judges.
The winner will automatically be eligible as a “semi-finalist” for the TechLaunch LaunchPad 2 program, and the team will receive two hours of legal counsel from sponsor SorinRand and two hours of accounting services from sponsor WeiserMazars. In addition, all attendees receive a 3 month SEO software package from sponsor SEOmoz (a $300 value). Other sponsors include EisnerAmper and Direct North. Learn more at www.fdu.edu/sw
